Papa, just one more game...

I walk out from my home-office setup into the living room to join my daughter Siri. I spend some time playing childish games with her - cooking in her toy kitchen, enacting role-plays like doctor-doctor, talking to her dolls, catch-catch... and so on. Time passes by very quickly and the cell phone buzzes reminding me of yet another scheduled meeting/call/task.

As I get ready for another round of work after this break and prepare to enter my home-office room, Siri says "Papa, just one more game..."

Happy Diwali and Eid Mubarak

Today morning, there were numerous Diwali greetings in my Inbox.
But the one that wins the prize for the "Best Festival Season Wish" is this one...

Jaise Ramzan mai hai Ram......
Aur Diwali mai hai Ali...
Khudah aur Bhagwan dono kare...
Aap sabhi k e life mai ho khushaali!

Is this post lucky or unlucky?

Today morning while filling in the bank's deposit slip, I had a cursory look at the calendar and noticed that today is Friday the 13th. When I visited the society gym in the morning - the register pointed out that I was the 13th person to visit the gym since morning. These events acted as a stimulus for this blog post.

I have been away from this blog for quite some time now. So you may be wondering if I was waiting for some auspicious occasion to resume blogging. I am not superstitious about dates and this post is just an attempt to make that point.

Yes - I am resuming my blogging on Friday the 13th.
Though urban legends consider this date to be unlucky, I don't.

The Bombay Stock Exchange also seems to echo my sentiments. All news channels are tom-toming about the sensex touching an all time high. If the trend continues the 13,000 mark may not be far away! Way to go!

Advice for wannabe CEOs

B.Muthuraman, MD of Tata Steel has a good piece of advice for wannabe CEOs:

When I see more and more of youngsters now-a-days, charging and wanting to become CEOs in three-five years' time, I always tell them that life is a marathon race and if you start off in a marathon race with a mindset of a 100 meter race, you are not going to complete it, leave alone winning it.

So one needs to build stamina for a marathon race and imagine that you are running a marathon race and not a 100 meter dash. A 100-meter runner in a marathon race will collapse in 200 meters.

Accepting reality

The meandering mind came across some good words of wisdom today morning – that deserve to be posted on this blog:

“Sometimes one of the hardest things of all is seeing things as they really are. Could have beens, should have beens, ought to bes, can't believe it isn'ts - all these cloud our vision of the world around us. But seeing through these various illusions is the first step toward accepting things as they are. It could also be the most difficult. And why is it important to accept things as they are? Only then can you engage with the real world, which is the only way to really make any necessary changes.”

A Poem for Holi

Today someone told me in the morning dew...
It is time for spring to make a debut,
It is time to splash colors of different hue,
It is time to contact friends, old and new,
It is time to wish Happy Holi to you !

Mulshi Trip Memoirs

For the first time, I appeared as a guest blogger on the blog of my friend - Shrivallabh. The article on his blog describes how we enjoyed the trip to Mulshi over the weekend.
